Feb 12 Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve Sat, 3C (12 miles, 2200+ feet). Join us as we explore the steep, rugged terrain of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District's largest, wildest preserve (located near Hwy. 17, south of Los Gatos). Enjoy a strenuous loop hike in the Kennedy-Limekiln area, with expansive views of coastal mountains and the south bay. 8 AM no-host carpool at Page Mill/280 Park & Ride, or meet at 9 AM at the Priest Rock Trailhead parking area (the roadside parking area on Alma Bridge Road just before the Los Gatos Rowing Club gate, about 1.5 miles southeast of Hwy. 17). Boots recommended. Bring lunch, snacks and liquids. There is no water on the trail. Heavy rain cancels. For more information about the preserve, visit: http://www.openspace.org For driving directions to the trailhead, call leaders: Bill Young and Jenny Maida.
After an unexpected rainy Friday evening, dawn shone bright and clear on muddy trails. The little ephemeral waterfalls were running.
