A scheduled outing of Sierra Club, Loma Prieta Section, Day Hiking Section, published in the Loma Prietan:

February 10 - Almaden Quicksilver - Sunday 3B - Meet 1:00 pm at bus stop near McDonalds, Almaden Expressway & McAbee, ready to hike, rain or shine. Afternoon to evening hike. No-host carpool 12:30 pm at Page Mill & I-280.

Driving: The Page Mill carpool point is "no-host". That means that no leader will be there, and so it will be up to participants to identify each other and form carpools and find their way to the starting point. To get to the starting point from Page Mill, take 280 south to 85 south to Almaden Expressway south. Pass Blossom Hill and Coleman; the next light is McAbee. Turn right into the parking lot at the shopping center. The bus stop is a convenient meeting point on Almaden Expressway next to McDonalds. No bus fare necessary this time.

We will start hiking at 1 PM and get back by 7 PM. Sunset about 5:41 PM. It's the last Sunday of this lunar year; Lunar New Year is February 12. So no moon for this hike.

We will walk to Almaden Quicksilver park and back covering 12-14 miles. Eat lunch beforehand; there won't be an extended lunch stop. The trails are mostly moderate but there are a few steep grades. The pace will be slow by Day Hiking Section or Peak Climbing Section standards, moderate by Black Mountain Group standards. This outing may be modified, but not canceled, by unfavorable weather.
