Feb 18 Mon 3C DAY HIKE PRESIDENTS DAY HOLIDAY to Mt Tam East Peak Enjoy a 13-mile loop with 3000 elevation gain on Mount Tamalpais. Climb the Dipsea Steps and enjoy lunch on the summit of East Peak. Enjoy spectacular views of San Francisco, Alcatraz and Marin Headlands from the fire tower. Return by 4 pm. DEPART 9 AM SHARP from Old Mill Park in Mill Valley.
There's something new in the Dipsea steps. But they are just as steep.
Intermittent fog obscured the objective.
The unremitting steepness of even the new improved Temelpa Trail obscured our motivation.
But in the fullness of time and sweat we reached the top and the sun mostly stayed out for us.
Then the hard-won elevation evaporated like sweat in the wind.
And as always the most painful part was the final approach and landing in Mill Valley.
