July 22 - Point Reyes - Sat. 4C. We will start at Five Brooks and hike out to the waterfall for lunch. Return via trails with wonderful views. Meet at 7:20 AM at Edgewood and 280 Park and Ride. Call leader if you have not hiked with group before. Leader: Fran Allen.
We started out having to outrun the equestrians.
We perspired uphill and down until Alamere Falls came into sight.
After lunch, some intrepid climbers made their way to the upper falls, where a local daredevil was performing.
We passed by Bass Lake, having grown to old to contribute to its youthful scene. We saw unusually clear views of Pt Reyes itself.
Toward the end we finally found some thick blackberry bushes - only 100' from the cars. Then we feasted on cold watermelon and lemon bars. On the way home, the temperature reached 110 degrees in San Anselmo at 6pm, and 100 degrees in Almaden Valley at 8pm. Yet it was a pleasant 75 degrees at 7pm, stuck in traffic on the Bayshore in Berkeley next to the bay.
