June 12 Point Reyes NP Sat, 3C (14 miles 2000 feet). Romp along ridge then down to the beach for lunch at Alamere Falls. After lunch we'll head for Bass Lake for a swim. Bring warm clothes and join us after for dinner at a local restaurant. Carpool: Edgewood P&R 7:30 AM.Leaders: Diane Medrano and Debbie Benham.
We parked at Palomarin but started at the end of the Ridge Trail south of the Bird Observatory.
The leader was carrying a lot of extra weight which she distributed at lunch.
The ocean water was painful at first but quickly numbing. No telling what one might have been stepping on. The tide was fairly high and the rocks north of the falls were awash.
There were rainbows in the spray.
The escape route was as exciting as ever.
The escape route was as scenic as ever.
Bass Lake was warmer than it looked, once you got used to it. Getting the mud off the feet wasn't so much fun.
On our hike out the leader pointed out some mother-of-the-forest eucalypti that I'd overlooked every other time through this way.
Another scenic highlight I'd passed by for 30+ years was the Sand Dollar Restaurant in Stinson Beach. We paid our dues by sitting on the porch for interminable hours before being seated for a lovely meal, except for those who ordered the salmon expecting to regain lost weight. The pork chop was a better deal.
