June 16 Sat 3C DAY HIKE to Point Bonita Lighthouse led by Brad and Katy Christie. Depart Tennessee Valley Trailhead at 9 AM SHARP. Hike to spectacular Point Bonita Lighthouse and enjoy lunch overlooking the Golden Gate. Cross the magnificent swinging bridge to the rocky precipice that the light house was constructed on. Return by Rodeo Beach along the Coastal Trail. Spectacular ocean views. Moderate pace. 13 miles with 3,000 elevation gain. Return by 4 pm.
Despite Katy's optimistic outlook, the sun never put in an appearance. Weather varied from cool to freezing cold winds at the usual exposed places.
Still some remarkable native and exotic species brightened up sheltered spots on the trail, and a few blackberries were found, most not quite ripe.
Lunch happened in a relatively sheltered spot, one hill before the descent.
The point is littered with monuments to obsolete technologies.
There was quite a traffic jam getting to and from the light.
I wasn't aware of the cliffside path to the black beach overview.
A descent to Rodeo Lagoon, and an ascent to Hill 88, and soon we were back at the cars.
